I bought a thing. A two wheels good thing.

Weeks of trolling Craigslist, and dealing with sellers who for some reason did not want my money, have finally paid off. I am the new owner of a 2012 Kymco Super 8, with a 150 cc motor. It’s in great shape, and I got it for the price of a decent 50 cc scooter.

I took it for my first ride (well except for the test ride), and I must say I was intensely aware of how vulnerable I was. I also had a blast.

Better pictures tomorrow.

If all goes well I'm riding tomorrow. I have been itching to ride for about 2 weeks. I just never find the time. Pending on weather & stress level.

Hmm I don’t know those, I lived in Hawaii half my life and the Honda clone Sym scooter is super popular there. Of course a 50cc there is a bicycle permit.

Kymco is a company in Taiwan that’s been around since the early 60's. They’re not top of the line by any means, but they’re well regarded and easy to get parts and service for.

I heard Sym is from Taiwan as well and as far as I know they copied the Honda so well they are pretty much the same thing.

Right on! Looking forward to more here.

Once you’re sufficiently addicted an old Honda Helix is right around the corner. Then? Who knows..

I guess we’ll see. I’m really not planning to put tons of miles on it, mostly just puttering around the neighborhood and around Road America, but I you never know :)

Yay! Glad you got something I remember recommending! :D

It’ll prob be a log time before I get my bike license and get my own scooter, but I’ve done a lot of research and the Super 8 always came up as pretty well-regarded. :)

Looking forward to hearing more on it! You’ll hve to give us a tour! :P

Yep, I did more research after your recommendation. I was still focusing on Japanese scooters in my search, but this one came up at a deal that could not be ignored. I picked it up for a grand.

Now I need to get my license! I have a permit and took a class, so I just need to take the test.

I’ll try and get more pics when the kids are napping later.

Wow, $1000 is a pretty sweet deal for a 150cc scooter around where I am at. Anything wrong with it? Had it been dropped?

No, nothing wrong with it at all. The seller had put down a deposit on a bigger scooter, and wanted to get rid of this one quickly. It’s in fabulous condition.

Kymco are actually incredibly rare here in my province, so I’d prob end up trying to find an older Honda or Yamaha or something...sadly, most of those have smaller engines, unless I went Vespa or Piaggio, which are more expensive!

Used Piaggios were pretty reasonably priced around here. One of my failed purchases was a Typhoon 50, that seller just could not get his crap together.
